CIOPORA’s AGM lands in Africa with a Special Program Focus on this Continent

The activities will start with The CIOPORA Academy, one of the most important spaces to learn about Intellectual Property Protection for Plants. This year, the full-day workshop offers 6 lectures made by seven speakers on important topics.

From April 15 to 19, the plant breeding sector will gather once again for the CIOPORA Annual General Meeting, this time in Marrakech. Over five days, more than a hundred people will delve into the challenges of plant breeders' innovation and how the industry and authorities can

protect their work.

This edition of the CIOPORA AGM will have a special focus on Africa, a key continent in the production of fruits and flowers, but also a territory that faces significant opportunities and challenges for plant breeders.

With more than 20 speakers, Crop Section Working Groups, a Symposium on Intellectual Property Rights for Plant Breeders, a Public Conference on Plant Innovation and Protection, and a full day of learning within the CIOPORA Academy, this event stands as the most important for CIOPORA throughout the year and one of the most influential for the plant breeding sector.

“We invite all stakeholders in the breeding sector to join this event in its public spaces. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will address some of the main challenges for plant breeders regarding innovation and protection. The CIOPORA AGM is a unique space where breeders can meet the main authorities responsible for intellectual property rights protection, and as such, is a space where the different actors involved can share their experiences and challenges,” says Dr. Edgar Krieger, Secretary-General of CIOPORA.

Learn, Share and Connect in the CIOPORA Academy

The activities will commence with The CIOPORA Academy, one of the most important venues for learning about Intellectual Property Protection for Plants. This year, the full-day workshop offers six lectures presented by seven speakers on important topics such as the NGT regulatory landscape around the world, an Introduction to Thresholds and Pitfalls in Nullity Actions, Recent Plant IP Litigations in the U.S., and A New Look at Harvested Material and Exhaustion, among others.

“We are really excited about the results of The CIOPORA Academy. After 8 years, it has earned a special place in the plant breeding sector as the main source for learning about Intellectual Property Protection for Horticultural Plants. Our Academy provides a space to Learn, Share, and Connect. This year, we will continue offering practical learnings about the latest developments in plant breeders' rights, which are indispensable for globally acting breeding companies and IP lawyers,” said Katrin Huhnholz, CIOPORA Academy Program Manager.
