Zimbabwe and UAE Draft PVP Laws Approved by UPOV Council

Geneva, August 14 - The UPOV Council has taken positive decisions on the conformity of the “Draft Plant Breeders Rights Act of Zimbabwe” and the "Draft Law on Plant Variety Protection of the United Arab Emirates” with the 1991 Act of the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants. Once the Draft Laws are adopted with no changes and are in force, they will allow Zimbabwe and the UAE to deposit their instruments of accession to the 1991 Act of UPOV.


Zimbabwe started the procedure to become a member of the Union in April 1998. UAE first provided UPOV with a draft PVP law in 2013 followed by an amended draft law version in 2019. Links:
