Canada: Deadline Extensions for Rescheduled DUS Trial Examinations

Ottawa, May 4 - The Canadian PBR Office has announced that due to travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, its employees will be unable to conduct site examinations until the end of June, 2020. For those applicants who can defer planned PBR trial examinations to the 2021 growing season, the PVP Office will provide corresponding deadline extensions. There will be no impact on the status of applications given the benefit of provisional protection.

Should travel restrictions not be lifted by late Summer or early Fall, Clients who still intend to plant/grow PBR trials in 2020 for examination later in the season may need to redo their trials in the 2021 growing season.

Furthermore, the applicants are encouraged to explore a possibility of purchasing foreign DUS reports from other UPOV member countries. The UPOV PRISMA tool is available for online applications for Canadian PVR.

Canada's PBR Office continues to be open with rotating shifts in the office and in home office. Therefore, applications, grants and payments continue to be processed.
