CIOPORA Position Papers on Intellectual Property

CIOPORA positions on Intellectual Property protection for plantsParticipation in CIOPORA is a democratic process.

CIOPORA members express their views on the current state of the Plant Variety Protection and Intellectual Property protection in the CIOPORA Position Papers on Intellectual Property, which are adopted by vote during the CIOPORA Annual General Meetings.

The latest development: CIOPORA felt that the current state and level of the Plant Breeders' Rights protection does not completely correspond to the today's reality of the global market. With this in view, CIOPORA had developed a series of Position Papers on Intellectual Property, four of which were unanimously adopted by the vote of the CIOPORA members during the association's AGM 2014 in The Hague, including the position papers on Minimum Distance, Scope of Right, Breeders' Exemption and Exhaustion.

In the course of preparation to the next AGM 2015 further Position Papers - on Essentially Derived Varieties, Patents, Ground-breaking Innovation and Additional Requests - will be presented for the breeders' discussion.
